Music[edit]
"The very structure of nerves is a kind of resonance, and carries possibly as a semiconducting system, but it carries a function that's analogous to the objective music outside the body. When you give the organism a chance to relax and begin to respond to the music, you're reinforcing or enabling a process that is very basic to the life of the brain cells and all of the living organism." - Ray Peat[1]
Ray leaned toward classical or chamber music suited to strings (e.g., Bach cello suites, given his cello affinity). Euthyroid instruments like cello and others with historical healing roles (e.g., church organs). He prefered live or analog music because of "degradation that has happened in the sound world".
He valued old classics, Dixieland, mariachis, he valued funny music, played cello and French horn for their rich tone quality, but disliked piano - said it always sounded out of tune to him.[2]
